What can you do to get prepared?

Programme Aims

Programme Aims are essentially how you enrol a Student to a Programme of study on Bromcom. These are used for Post 16 Students where a Status of Completed, Continuing, Withdrawn or Transferred is required.

The Start Date is when the Students started the Programme.

The Planned End Date is when they are expected to complete the Programme.

The End Date is only set once the Student actually completes the Course – It would be expected that this is blank until they have actually finished the Programme.

Note: A Student assigned to multiple Learning Aims of the same type, would only have ONE Programme Aim of this type to encompass the Learning Aims. For example, if a Student has three Learning Aims for 16-19 Student Programme, they would have ONE Programme Aim of this type to cover the Learning Aims for this period.

Adding a Programme Aim

As it stands, there is no facility to manage Programme Aims in bulk. We are hopeful of having this in place later this year but until this is the case, the only way to add Programme Aims is individually via the Student’s Record under the Enrolment Tab.

Student’s Record

Programme Types are set when adding a Programme Aim to a Student’s Record. This must be set correctly to reflect the Course that the Student is undertaking. Your Local Authority/the DfE can assist you if you are unsure which Programme Aim to select.

Note: Due to only being able to set Programme Aims individually, the Programme Types must also be set individually until a bulk method is introduced.

The available Programme Types

Learning Aims

Learning Aims are attached to the Programmes or Courses that Students are studying and they can be added through multiple ways on the MIS. The Start Date, End Date and Planned End Date of the Learning Aims must fall within the Start, End and Planned End Date of the Programme Aim that was previously set.

Each Learning Aim has a unique QN Code, the QN Codes must be correctly entered when adding a Learning Aim. Your Local Authority/the DfE can assist you if you are unsure which one to select.

Learning Aims can be added using 4 methods;

  • Learning Aims can be added individually via a Student’s Record (Students>View a Student>Enrolment Tab>Learning Aims) – This method will be very time consuming so one of the next methods may be more efficient, but this is a good way of making individual changes if needed.
Via Students
  • Learning Aims can be added directly against a Course on the MIS (Groups>Courses>View a Course>Learning Aim Details) – These Learning Aims will then cascade down to the Classes within the Course, which in turn will apply the QN Code against the Students in the Class with a one year Planned End Date.

Note: You will need to manually extend the Planned End Date of the Learning Aim if a two Year Course is being added.

Via Courses
  • Groups>Teaching Classes>View a Class>Learning Aim DetailsLearning Aims can be added to a Teaching Class directly, which will apply the QN Code to the Students but NOT the Course. This is because the Course is above the Class on the MIS and the Learning Aims do not apply upwards.
Via Classes

Modules>Curriculum>Bulk Learning Aim UpdateLearning Aims can be added in Bulk using the Bulk Learning Aim page.

Via Learning Aim Update

The idea of this page is to apply Learning Aims in Bulk using a table where you can either amend existing or add new Learning Aims as seen below;

Adding the Learning Aims

Selecting Add Learning Aim allows you to apply a QN Code for individual or multiple Students with the desired dates. Choose the correct QN Code and press Done.

Selecting the QN Code

This will take you back to the original page where the QN Codes will be added and you need to press Apply if the data is correct.

Student Prior Attainment

  • The Prior Attainment must be set for the Students to ensure that their English and Maths GCSE Results are entered on the system. This can be carried out in Bulk using the Prior Attainment Page (Modules>Census>Student Prior Attainment).

On this page you can search for individual Students or Find Incomplete Students which will provide you with all Students that are missing their Maths/English Prior Attainment.

Student Prior Attainment

Once you have your Students selected, you can either Update from Exams or highlight Students and use the Bulk Update feature.

Note: The Update from Exams function will only work if the Students were at your School and sat the Exams at your School for these Subjects as an Internal Candidate.

You will also need to ensure that the Prior Attainment is in place for the current Year, and the Year Prior (i.e. in 21/22, you must also have 20/21 completed)

Entering Prior Attainment

Bulk Update allows you to enter a Grade and Year Award for the Students on the following screen;

Entering the Data

Once the data has been entered, press Apply. This will return you to the original screen where you would then press Save to store the Prior Attainment.
