How to Add the Young Carer Indicator to a Student

This guide looks at the following processes in relation to Young Carer in the MIS

Access: The minimum permissions required to access the Profile page within a Student’s record are found in the Framework Module of Config>Setup>Roles & Permissions.

Mark a Student as a Young Carer

From the left Menu go to Students to open the Student List Page > click on the name(s) Select 1 or more Students > View.

The Student Details page will open on the Profile page. The main information for that Student will be displayed in the top section.

Moving the mouse pointer over the Student Name, will display an Edit icon.

Click on the Edit icon to open the Student Details popup window and then tab along to Additional Details

Navigate to the Young Carer Indicator on the left hand side of the page and click to select an option from the dropdown.

Click Save.

Note: If you want to add a Flag to the Student profile showing that they are a Young Carer, then you can do this by following our guide on How to Create a User Defined Flag.

User Defined Flag

Navigate to Config > Administration > User Defined Flags

Click New

Choose Data Field and Young Carer

Selecting Young Carer provides the following values:

  • Identified as a young carer by parent or guardian
  • Identified as a young carer by school
  • Not declared

No default value is selected, and multiple values can be applied where appropriate.

Once created, the Young Carer flag appears in the User Defined Flags panel and across applicable areas of the MIS.

Other Areas in the MIS

The Young Carer Indicator is also visible in the following areas in the MIS

  • Audit Report
  • Assessment Sheets List
  • Teacher Dashboard
  • Report Group

Reports > Administration > Audit Report: changes to the Young Carer Indicator are recorded in the Audit Report.

Modules > Assessment > Assessment Sheets List: the Young Carer flag is displayed in the User Defined Flags column on Assessment Marksheets where applicable.

Home > Teacher Dashboard: the Young Carer flag appears in the Flags column of the Student List where applicable.

Groups > Report Group (Dynamic Membership)

A new Young Carer filter is available in Data Field – Membership Filters when creating or updating dynamic report groups, using the same three selectable values.

Tip: Hold the Control key to multi-select.

Note: Changes to the Young Carer flag in the User Defined Flags page and any changes made to the student’s Young Carer Indicator, will be updated automatically in real-time across the MIS.
