How to use the Attendance Dashboard

This guide explains how to use the Attendance Dashboard, available for both Primary and Secondary phases.

Attendance Dashboard allows schools to view and analyse Attendance figures. This guide consists of eight sections:

Access: The minimum permissions required to access the Attendance Dashboard can be found in the Profile Module of Config>Setup>Roles and Permissions.

To access the Attendance Dashboard, open the Overview dropdown on the Bromcom Home page and select Attendance.

Settings

Click on the drop down Settings in the top right hand corner.

The Settings panel allows you to filter the figures on the dashboard to specific groups as well as add Benchmarks and Comparisons to the figures.

  • Attendance Date – Choose what period of time you would like to look at the Attendance figures for. If you select Custom Date Range you will need to enter the time period you would like to see the figures for using the date fields below the drop down.
  • All Students/ Statutory Age Only/ Age-weighted : Allows you to define which students are included based on their age. All students will include any student who was on roll at any point during the selected time period. Statutory Age Only will include any students who were aged between 5 and 15 at the beginning of the academic year. Age-weighted will include students based on at what point in the year they become Statutory Age (Note: For more information about when students will start being included, hover over the i icon.)

  • Benchmark – Select which data set you would like to use as a Benchmark. The Benchmark figures will be shown on the graphs further down the page.
  • Comparison – Select which data you would like to use as a Comparison, this applies to the Headline figures and will display on the Headline Figures widget. For the latest information and updates on DfE Benchmarks got to What’s New on Bromcom and click on Dashboards
  • Status – Select which Enrolment Status’ you would like included in the Attendance figures.
  • Severely Absent – The logic for the Severely Absent Headline Figure has been updated to align with DfE guidance. A pupil is now classified as severely absent if their attendance is less than or equal to 50%, reflecting the DfE definition.
  • Previously, students with exactly 50% attendance were not included in this count.
  • Year Group – You do not need to select anything in this box, however, if you would like to limit the results to a specific Year Group or Year Groups select them here.
  • Tutor Groups – You do not need to select anything in this box, however, if you would like to limit the results to a specific Tutor Group or Tutor Groups select them here.
  • Report Group You do not need to select anything in this box, however, if you would like to limit the results to a specific Report Group you can select it here. In the example below we have typed in Boys to see all the Report Groups with the word Boys in. For guidance on creating Report Groups see here,

Once you’re happy click Apply and the Dashboard will update so that the figures are filtered according to your selections.

Headline Figures

Headline Figures will display at the top of the Attendance Dashboard.

It gives a brief overview of some key Attendance figures, at the bottom of each of the widgets you will see a % change as compared with the time period you selected in the Comparison dropdown in the previous section.

When users click on individual tiles, they will be able to access the Tutor Group chart and Students breakdown easily as it will appear at the top of the screen without the need to scroll to the bottom of the page. See Tutor Group and Other Groups in this guide.

See the Equiv days absent which will display the number of sessions a student has been absent up until yesterday’s register, alongside the existing absence percentage (Abs%). E.g. if a student is absent for half a day it will display 0.5.

Overall

By default the Overall panel will show Attendance Percentage by Year Group.

You can use the dropdown in the top right hand corner to change which Attendance figure you would like to see.

In the top right hand corner you also have the Link Icon and the Expand Icon.

The Link icon indicates that if you update the settings of the dashboard, the new settings will be applied to this graph. If you would like to exclude this graph from updating according to the settings, click the Link icon to unlink it.

The Expand icon will expand the graph and display a table containing all the information included in the figures on the graph. You can also view more detail about a specific Year Group by clicking on that year groups bar on the chart.

Absence

By default the Absence graph will show Absence split by Reason for Absence.

You can change this to show percentage of Absence by Day of the Week using the dropdown in the top right hand corner.

The Expand icon will expand the graph and display a table containing all the information included in the figures on the graph. You can also view more detail about a specific Reason or Day of the Week by clicking on that section of the chart.

Groups

The Groups graph will show Attendance for specific groups of Students by default.

You can change which Attendance statistic the graph is focusing on using the dropdown in the top right corner.

In the top right hand corner, you also have the Link and Expand icons.

The Link icon indicates that if you update the settings of the dashboard, the new settings will be applied to this graph. If you would like to exclude this graph from updating according to the settings, click the Link icon to unlink it.

The Expand icon will expand the graph and display a table containing all the information included in the figures on the graph. You can also view more detail about a specific Group by clicking on that Groups bar on the chart.

Timeline

By default, the Timeline section will display Attendance percentage on a week by week basis.

You can hover over any of the points on the graph to display the Attendance statistics for that week.

Weekly Stats

Using the dropdown in the top right hand corner you can change which Attendance statistic the graph is looking at.

In the top right hand corner, you also have the Link and Expand icons.

Ethnicity Pie Chart and Column

December 2024 : A new pie chart has been added to show the percentage attendance breakdown by Ethnicity groups for the selected date range.

Once an Ethnicity group is selected, a data table will be displayed below the pie chart as per existing functionality in other charts. Ethnic groups with a percentage below 1.5% will be categorised under “Other Ethnic Group” for this pie chart.

The example chart below shows that of the pupils who were classed as being in Attendance – 36.4% were White – British.

Tutor Group and Other Groups

The final graph on the page displays Attendance statistics by Tutor Group by default.

In the top left hand corner you can use the dropdown to switch between the Tutor Group view and Other Groups.

You can change which Attendance statistic the graph is looking at using the dropdown in the top right hand corner.

In the top right hand corner, you also have the Link and Expand icons.

The Expand icon will expand the graph and display a table containing all the information included in the figures on the graph. You can also view more detail about a specific Tutor Group or House by clicking on the bar for that Tutor Group or House on the graph.
