We are pleased to introduce the first version of the new SEN Dashboard for schools in England, designed for on-roll students to improve the visibility and accessibility of SEN-related data.
In this guide we’ll look at how you can use Headline Figures, SEN Charts (SEN by Ethnicity, SEN by Groups, and SEN by Year Group), and SEN Reviews.
Access: The minimum permissions required to access the SEN Dashboard are found in the Profile Module from within Config > Setup > Roles and Permissions.
To access the SEN Dashboard go to the Home page, and select the Overview dropdown (If you are a Teacher with timetabled sessions you will see My Dashboard instead of Overview).
Select SEN Dashboard.
Settings
The Headline Figures and SEN Charts will default to display data for all on-roll students with a SEN Status of No Special Educational Need (N), EHCP (E) and SEN Support Plan (K)for the year to date.
Users can apply the following filters in Settings to update the SEN Charts and Headline Figures simultaneously:
- Date Range filters (will include active SEN Statuses within the selected date range):
- Year to date
- This term
- Last term – (Displays only if a previous term exists within the current academic year)
- Custom Date Range – Using from and to date range pickers
- Group multi-select filters:
- Tutor Group
- Year Group
- Report Group
- SEN multi-select filters:
- SEN Status – choose from N, E and K.
- SEN Category
- Action buttons:
- Reset – This resets all settings to the default.
- Save as Default – Saves current selected items as a default setting for the user.
- Apply – Once clicked, the settings menu disappears and the dashboard is updated based on the selections.
Headline Figures
The following static Headline Figures are displayed at the top of the dashboard, showing totals based on the selected settings and date range:
- Total No of students with a SEN Status – count of students with selected SEN Status
- Total No of Students with a SEN Category – count of students with selected SEN Category
- Total No of active Provisions – count of active Provisions
- Total No of EHCPs – count of active EHCPs
- Total No of Events – count of Events
Note: SEN Status, SEN Category, Provision, and Events can be located in Students > Student Details > Special Educational Needs. SEN Categories are defined in Config > Administration > Lookup Tables.
SEN Charts
The dashboard displays three charts: SEN by Ethnicity, SEN by Groups, and SEN by Year Group.
1. SEN by Ethnicity
- SEN by Ethnicity displays a pie chart of the number of students per ethnicity with the selected SEN Status.
- Tooltips show the number of students, ethnicity and percentage.
- Example: If there are 200 students with the selected SEN Status, and 100 of them are White British, then the White British segment will display as 50% on the pie chart.
2. SEN by Groups
- SEN by Groups displays a bar chart of the number of students per Group with the selected SEN Status.
- Tooltips show the number of students, group and percentage.
3. SEN by Year Group
- SEN by Year Group displays a bar chart of the number of students per Year Group with the selected SEN Status.
- Tooltips show the number of students, year group and percentage.
Expanded Views
- Click the arrows in the top-right corner of a chart or any chart segment to open the expanded view.
- In the expanded view, a table displays details of students with the selected SEN status.
- Click a chart segment to filter the table by that selection, and click it again to clear the filter.
- Select Actions to copy, export, or print the table.
SEN Reviews
- The SEN Reviews table lists all students with reviews scheduled today or within the next 30 days.
- Toggle on Display all SEN Reviews to include all reviews within the selected Date Range set in Settings.
- Columns in the table can be filtered as needed.
- Select Actions to copy, export, or print the table.
- The SEN Reviews table is only filtered by the Date Range in Settings, and this applies only when Display all SEN Reviews is enabled.
