This guide explains how to import a timetable created in TimeTabler (or Edval) into Bromcom.
Note: Only completed timetables can be imported. Blank timetables are not supported.
If importing a timetable from Nova T, refer to the How to Import a Timetable from Nova-T guide. If importing a timetable from wTimetable/eTimetable, refer to the Importing a Timetable from wTimetable or eTimetable guide.
Pre-Requisites
- An export of the timetable in XML format (for TimeTabler, export the timetable using Export to MIS and select Bromcom as the destination.)
- A new academic year must be created in Bromcom with a matching period structure as the timetable file. (Not required when applying a timetable mid year).
- The number of periods must match exactly between Bromcom and TimeTabler/Edval.
- Any new staff added in TimeTabler or Edval are also added in Bromcom.
- Staff initials in TimeTabler or Edval match those recorded in Bromcom.
Import Process
Navigate to Modules > Curriculum > Apply Timetable Model.

Select Import from the top left of the page.

Enter the Timetable Model Name.
Select Browse to locate and select the exported timetable file.
Select Import.

Import Dates
Select the dates the model will be applied for.

When first applying a timetable model for the next academic year, the following must apply:
- Start Date – Ensure the start date is on or after the start date defined for the academic year in Config > Curriculum > Academic Years.
Note: If the Teacher Dashboard needs to be available before students return (for example, during staff INSET days), the import start date should be the first day that the timetable is required by staff. This date must also be defined as an Academic Day in Config > Curriculum > Academic Days. - End Date – The end date must fall within the same academic year as the start date. Schools may choose whether this is the last day of the summer term or the final day of the academic year.
- If a new version of the timetable model is applied before the next academic year begins, ensure the same start and end dates are used as originally defined.
When applying a Timetable Model mid-year:
- Start Date – the start date should be set to the date on which changes are intended to go live in the MIS.
It is recommended to choose a date at least one day in the future to allow time to review the import before the changes are applied.
- End Date – The end date must remain the same as when the Timetable Model was first applied at the start of the academic year.
Tip: When re-applying a timetable mid-year, rename the file so it does not match the existing file in Bromcom.
Mapping Calendar Days
Under Match Calendar Days, check that:
- Calendar Days are matched to the correct Timetable Days.
- The period count is correct.

Process Timetable
Once all information has been completed, select Process at the top of the page.

Note: A confirmation message will be displayed. Review and select Proceed to continue.

The timetable model will be analysed and an import summary will be generated.
Review the summary carefully before applying the timetable model.
If any information appears incorrect or unexpected, contact Support via the usual channels before continuing.

If the summary is correct, select Apply.

Post Import
If the imported XML file does not contain Year Group and Subject Code information, additional configuration is required.
Navigate to Groups > Group Type = Teaching Classes
Select the required teaching classes, then use Actions > Quick Edit to assign the relevant Subject and Year Group.
