KS2 Tests & Teacher Assessments (including Year 4 MTC) Guide

The Key Stage 2 Tests and Teacher Assessments are used to assess pupil’s development at the end of Years 4 and 6.

This includes:

  • Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) – statutory tests for Year 4 pupils
  • Key Stage 2 Teacher Assessments in Writing and Science for Year 6 pupils, and Reading and Maths for those working below the expected standard of the National Curriculum.
  • Key Stage 2 Tests in Reading, Maths, and Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling for Year 6 pupils.

Important Dates

The statutory Key Stage 2 Tests are timetabled from Monday 11th May to Thursday 14th May 2026:

The Year 4 Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) must be administered by schools within the 2-week period from Monday 1st June and Friday 12th June 2026.

KS2 Tests & Teacher Assessments Process

This section explains how to set the Permissions necessary to follow the steps outlined in this guide.

Navigate to Config > Set Up > Roles and Permissions.

From here, permissions for different roles can be viewed, assigned and modified as required.

Pathway

From the Roles dropdown list select the required Role and click Edit.

Then from the Module dropdown list choose Assessment.

The panel will refresh to display all menu items within the Assessment Module.

The following permissions will be required;

  • In the Maintenance menu ensure Access is ticked for Configurations. This enables access to Config>Assessment>Configurations
  • In the Routines menu ensure Access is ticked for Assessment Sheets List. This enables access to Modules>Assessment>Assessment Sheets List.

Once complete, click Save in the top-left corner

This section outlines the steps for granting staff the necessary access to view and enter data in the Stage Assessment Sheets.

Example: A school may want to provide access to all Tutors and an Administrator to view and input data into the Stage Assessment Sheets.

Navigate to Config > Assessment > Configurations.

In the Stage Assessment Sheet Configuration panel on the right-hand side, tick Enable Sheet Users to display dynamic roles and individual staff for granting access.

The panel will refresh, after which the relevant roles and/or staff can be selected:

  • Dynamic Roles – choose from Head of School, Head of Year, Tutor, Deputy Head of School or Deputy Head of Year
  • Select Individual Users – use the blue magnifying glass to open the Staff selector page and select the members of Staff who are not defined in the Roles but also need access to the Stage Assessment Sheets.
    • Alternatively type the Staff name into the box, if selecting a single member of Staff. The selected Staff will appear in the Selection List.
  • Generate Templates for National Curriculum Year Groups – select the relevant year group for which stage assessment sheets need to be generated

Once complete, click Save in the top-left corner

Configuration

The Assessment Sheets List page in the MIS contains the Stage Assessment Sheets where staff can input the results for the KS2 Return.

There are two pathways to access the Assessment Sheets List:

  • Admin: via the left-hand toolbar – Modules > Assessment > Assessment Sheets List

  • Teachers: via the Assessment Widget on the Overview Dashboard

Click the My Dashboard dropdown and select Overview.

Tip: If a Teacher has no timetabled lessons, then the system will automatically open on the Overview Dashboard.

Locate the Assessment Sheets widget and click the More button in the top-right of the panel.

Once the Assessment Sheets List is open, follow the steps below to access the KS2-2026 Stage Assessment Sheets

  • User Access – if the user has more than one Role allocated to them select the required Role.
  • Marksheet Type – filter to show Stage Assessment Sheets.
  • Active On – Any date from 04/04/2026 onwards.

Once the relevant filters are applied, the page will refresh to display the Stage Assessment Sheets.

Year 6 Stage Assessment Sheets

Note: the system will create two types of Stage Assessment Sheets:

  • Whole Year Group sheets – In the example screenshot below, these are labelled KS2-2026-06
  • Individual Tutor Group sheets – In the example screenshot below, these are labelled KS2-2026-6-Birch and KS2-2026-6-Willow

Note: the system will create two types of Stage Assessment Sheets:

  • Individual Tutor Group sheets – In the example screenshot below, these are labelled KS2-2026-4-Ash and KS2-2026-4-Holly

Inputting Year 6 Student Data

The screenshot below is taken from the DfE Assessment Component Files 2026 guidance and outlines the required column headings for the KS2 Teacher Assessments. Please refer to this when entering data.

KS2 TA Assessment data is required for English Writing and Science and for all subjects
for certain students. For further guidance on this see, Key stage 2 teacher assessment
guidance 2026 – GOV.UK.

Use the bottom and right-hand scroll bars to view all students and columns in the
sheet.

The results for each student can be entered into the sheet in one of two ways:

  • Manually per student: Click the relevant cell for each student and either enter or select the result, depending on the column.
  • Flood Fill – Right click the appropriate column header and select Flood Fill to apply the same result to all students.

Note: This option is useful when the majority of students have the same score; any exceptions can be manually updated afterwards.

Data is saved automatically as it is inputted.

This section explains how to create a KS2 Return CTF to submit to either the Local Authority or directly to the DfE via Collect.

Navigate to Students in the left-hand menu to open the Students List Page

Students can be selected in different ways:

  • Individually: Manually select the students for whom a CTF needs to be produced. In the screenshot below, three students have been selected.

  • By Year Group: Add the Year Group column by clicking the Add/Remove Additional Columns icon in the top-right corner. Select Year Group, then click Save.

Once the column has been added, filter the student list by a specific year group using the column header filter.

Click Selections, then choose Select All to include all students in that Year Group.

Once the required students have been selected, select CTF Export from the Actions dropdown.

For Year 6 KS2 Tests set the Export Type as KS2 Return.

If the file is being submitted to the Local Authority, choose the relevant option from the dropdown list.

Click Export to complete the process.

The CTF will be saved to the downloads area of the local PC.

This section provides step-by-step instructions for importing Key Stage 2 (KS2) and Year 4
Multiplication Tables Check (MTC)
results into Bromcom using CTF files.

  • KS2 Results (Year 6): Imported via a CTF file available from the PAG or another
    school.
  • MTC Results (Year 4): Imported via a CTF available from the MTC Service and
    imported in the same way.
  • Imports are completed via the Student List page using the CTF Import function.

Before you begin, ensure the following:

  • CTF file(s) are downloaded and saved locally
  • All relevant students are on roll in Bromcom
  • You have the correct permissions to access Student List and CTF Import

Click Students from the left-hand menu to open the Student List Page.


Select CTF Import from the Actions dropdown.


Click the top-left Browse to locate the CTF file saved on your device and click open.
Ensure Assessment Data and the Key Stage 2 selections are ticked.


Click Next

Review Matched Students. This will list students included within the CTF results file.


Click Import
Finally navigate to Modules > Assessment > Assessment Sheets List then open the relevant KS2 marksheet and check to confirm results have imported correctly.
