Scheduling Rules within wTimetable

The Scheduling page allows users to drag and drop Blocks into available Periods to create a Scheduled Timetable.

This guide covers the following Scheduling Rules;

The minimum permissions required to create a Timetable are found in the Timetable Module from Config > Setup > Roles and Permissions > Choose Role>Edit>Timetable > Timetable App.

General

  • Sessions can only be scheduled for the Year Group and Band that they are created for.
  • Sessions can be dragged & dropped into the timetable only in the Year Group view.
    • Sessions can be dragged & dropped from one Period to another in the timetable.
    • Available sessions are highlighted in green.
    • Unavailable sessions are marked with a red dot.
  • When a session is dropped into the timetable:
    • The Band height is expanded based on the class count included in the scheduled periods.
    • If a session does not fill up the space in the Band with the included classes, we use a placeholder area for the remaining space.
  • Double Periods must be scheduled for consecutive Periods.
  • Turn a scheduled double Period into singles by left clicking on the Period and clicking Split to Single Periods.
  • Cross-band Blocks:
    • When scheduling a cross-band Block all the included Bands have to be available for the selected Period.
  • The cross-band can only be dropped in the first band

Simple Blocks

  • Drag and drop each period of a Simple Block separately into the timetable.
  • If there is more than one class in a Period in a Simple Block, all classes in the same Period will move together and will be scheduled to the same Period of the timetable.

Linear Blocks

  • For Linear Groups we drag & drop one session at a time.
    • When one class in a Period is scheduled, it creates a “container” for the remaining classes in the same Period not yet scheduled.
    • Sessions can only be dropped inside a Period for that specific place for the selected class. E.g., if you are scheduling a class that is in the 2nd row of a Period, the scheduled class will be placed in the second row of the scheduled Period with “container” in the other rows.
    • The Timetable will only allow sessions to be scheduled in a way that allows the scheduling of the remaining sessions within the Block.
  • Single and Double Periods
    • If a double Period is scheduled for class A, two singles of another Subject can be scheduled for class B for the same Period.
  • Single sessions can be dropped into double placeholders.
  • Doubles can be dropped over single placeholders if:
    • another single placeholder is in the consecutive teaching period, OR
    • the single placeholder is standing alone, but the remaining classes will fit into the created placeholders after ‘transforming’ it to a double placeholder.
  • Doubles cannot be dropped over breaks.
  • Layout changes on the side panel:
  • If we schedule a session (class-cell), the counters that displays the remaining periods for that class goes down by one once all classes have been scheduled

Options Blocks

  • We can drag & drop each Period separately into the timetable.
  • When dragging a Period, all classes move together and will be scheduled in the same time.

Complex Blocks Single Periods

  • When dragging a Period, all classes move together in a Period and will be scheduled in the same time
