Use this guide to resolve School Census Error 100
Error 100; For the 2026-27 Academic year
DfE Validation <ReferenceDate> must be present and must be:
- 2026-10-01 where equals ‘AUT’
- 2027-01-14 where equals ‘SPR’
- 2027-05-20 where equals ‘SUM’
Explanation: check the Reference Date is correct in your Census Return via Modules>Census>School>Select Return>Edit.
- For Autumn 2026 this is 01/10/2026
- For Spring 2027 this is 14/01/2026
- For Summer 2027 this is 20/05/2026

Go to Modules>Census>School click on the required return, this will highlight in blue. Then click Edit.
The Reference Date should be pre populated
As the example below is for an Autumn 2026 Census return the Reference Date is set to 01/10/2026
IMPORTANT in order for the resolved error/query to be removed from the list of errors/queries you would need to generate a new Census return and remember to use save & validate for the errors/queries to update/clear.
