Use this guide to resolve School Census Error 1840
Error 1840:
- DfE validation <Language> must be present and a valid value
- Explanation: First Language is missing or invalid value.

For those Students identified from the Student Profile click on Ethnicity, Religion & Languages from the top right All dropdown
Either click on the relevant Language record to edit or click the top right + icon to add Languages noting that First Language is either missing or an invalid value for the Student
Then if amending the First Language record click the pencil icon to view/amend the First Language record.
Choose /check the Language from the drop down choices and set the Language Type as First Language and then remember to click Save if you make any amendments.
IMPORTANT : in order for the resolved error/query to be removed from the list of errors/queries you would need to generate a new Census return and remember to use save & validate for the errors/queries to update/clear.
