Cohort
Use this section to define which students are included in the KS4 Performance Dashboard analysis. For example, a school may have results for all Year 11 students but may choose to exclude those who joined after the Autumn School Census.
Navigate to Modules > Analysis > Key Stage Cohort Definition

Pathway
Select KS4 Cohort Definition from the Cohort dropdown.

Choose the relevant Academic Year and Year Group.

The system will automatically populate the Included list with students on roll at the start of the academic year. New students are added automatically, except:
Year 11 students joining after the Spring Census are automatically Excluded
Excluding Students
To exclude students, tick the boxes next to their names and click Exclude.

Including Students
Excluded students can be restored by selecting them from the Exclude list and clicking Include.

Click Proceed on the warning message.
Note: Students do not need to be leavers to be excluded. Exclusion allows the school to analyse results without specific individuals.

Then click Proceed on the following warning message.

To enhance cohort data accuracy, users can manually adjust the disadvantaged KS4 cohort.
The Disadvantaged button is located under Included, with a tooltip reading “Check Included Disadvantaged Cohort” for guidance.
Clicking it opens a table showing students in the disadvantaged cohort, making review and adjustments simple.
- Search: Quickly find specific students.
- Save & Close: Confirm or discard changes.
- Filter: Show only Disadvantaged Students (default: On).
- Cohort Updates: Changes apply when the snapshot is refreshed; unrefreshed snapshots remain unchanged.
KS2 Data & Attainment Estimates
Use this section to review and update KS2 Fine Levels and Scaled Scores for a cohort.
This data is used to calculate Progress Measures. To use the Progress 8 analysis in the KS4 Performance Dashboard, ensure the information is complete and accurate for the selected cohort.
Navigate to Modules > Analysis > Review KS2 Fine Levels

Select the relevant Academic Year and Year Group.

Scaled Scores for all on-roll students in the selected Year Group will display.
- If any scores differ from internal records, amend them as needed.
- If a student did not sit KS2 (e.g. due to Covid) and Progress 8 measures are still required, enter an Override Scaled Score in the column on the right.

Scores can also be updated by importing a CTF using the Import button at the top-left of the page.
Note: Fine Scores have been discontinued for current Year Groups. When reviewing Progress 8 measures for a current Year Group, ensure all cohort members have a Scaled Score.

After confirming all information is correct, click the top-left Save.

Attainment Estimates are projected GCSE outcomes calculated by the Department for Education (DfE).
They estimate the grades a student is likely to achieve at Key Stage 4 (KS4) based on prior attainment, typically KS2 results.
Bromcom will update the DfE Attainment Estimates once they have been published, up to twice per year. Please Note: there may be a slight delay between them being published and appearing in the tables.
Navigate to Modules > Analysis > Attainment Estimates

Select the Academic Year and the Version to view.

The table refreshes to display the Attainment Estimates for the selections made.

If needed schools can use the Export and Import function for greater control.
Click Export, this downloads the selected table as an Excel file to use as a template for entering custom Attainment Estimates.

After editing the Export, save the file locally and click Import

- Select the Academic Year that the Imported Attainment Estimates apply to.
- Select Create a new version
- Give the Version a Name and Description to help you identify it.
- Then locate the file using the Browse button.

Click Save at the top-left of the page once the information is complete.
The Import will now be available in the Version dropdown.

Mapping
Map the Subjects in Bromcom to the relevant qualifications using QN codes.
- Subject Mapping is only used for Assessment snapshots.
- Exam Results Snapshots automatically use the QN code linked to the qualification.
To find the QN codes for subjects, consult the Exams Officer (they are attached to Exam Entries) or run a report via Reports > Curriculum > QN Data.
Navigate to Modules > Analysis > Subject Mapping

Select the relevant Academic Year from the drop down

Next to the Subject that you wish to update the QN code for, click in the field in the KS4 QN and Discount code(s) column. Search for the QN code either using the QN code or by keyword and select it by clicking on it.
Note: You can add multiple QN codes per Subject.

Once all the relevant QN codes have been added for that Subject, click the tick to confirm.

English and Science
Important : English and English Literature each has its own KS4 QN and must be added to avoid incorrect discounting and calculations. Similarly,Science may have multiple KS4 QNs, for example Biology, Chemistry, Physics etc.
Clone
Once the Subjects have been mapped, they can be carried forward to the next Academic Year by using the Clone option, which will copy the QN codes from the previous year for all active Subjects.

The Confirmation pop up details the cloning process.

Click Proceed to complete the Clone process.
Use this section to map where the Assessment Subject is different to the Subject assigned to the Timetabled Class within Bromcom. For example a school may have a Year 11 Maths class that is studying GCSE Statistics.
Navigate to Config>Analysis>Configurations

Scroll down to see Assessment Subject & Timetabled Subject Mapping
Click New.

- The Academic Year will default to the current Academic Year.
- Select the Timetabled Subject to map from the drop down.
- Then select all relevant Subjects from the Assessment Subjects field.
Once happy with the selections click Save.

Note: This is only necessary where the Timetabled Subject is not the same as the Assessment Subject, for example, a class with a subject of English that will be assessed on English and English Literature.
To check the Subjects assigned to the Teaching Classes;
- Click Groups from the left hand menu
- Check the top-right Group Type is Teaching Class
- Click the top-right Add/Remove Columns and select Subject then click Save
- This will add a Subject column to the Groups List page

Use this section to map any Marksets you use within Assessment to DfE Grade Sets.
Navigate to Config > Analysis > Configurations

Then the Markset Mappings panel
Enter the Markset Name and the Range of values covered, once you’re happy click the Tick on the right to confirm, then repeat on the next line until you have covered all the necessary values.

This will then be available to map as a Grade Set , see the next section on Gradesets in this guide.
Use this section to map any Grade Sets created in the Assessment Module to a DfE Grade Structure, this allows the system to convert school created Grade sets into KS4 Performance measures.
- Grade Mapping is only used for Assessment Snapshots in the Dashboard
- For example in an Assessment Type a school may have grades called 8+ or 8- in the attached Gradeset, these Grades need mapping to the relevant DfE Gradeset.
- In the example you mapped an 8+ grade to a Grade 9 then the analysis will treat the grade as a 9
Select the relevant Academic Year and Grade Structure, then select any custom Grade Sets to be mapped to the selected *Grade Structure.
*Grade Structure is the DfE Grade Set list.
Tip: Gradesets need to be mapped even if they are identical to the DfE Grade Structure.

Map any Grades included in each Grade Set to the corresponding Grade in the Grade Structure.

- Important: a school may have a range of grades with 0 points value, such as U, Ungraded, Unclassified, X or some other school definition to indicate the state of a student’s results.
- For the system to include these in the data output as entries, these grades must be mapped to the Unclassified Grade Scheme at the bottom of the Grade Scheme dropdown menu.

Once all the mapping is complete click Save in the top-left corner.

Headline Figure Datasets
Use this section to create a ‘Snapshot’ to use on the KS4 Performance Dashboard. This Snapshot tells the Dashboard which Data to use in it’s analysis, the Dashboard will not work without this.
A Snapshot will look at either Exam Results or Assessments.
- Exam Results is the default setting and is set automatically to the Summer Season of the Academic Year of the selected Cohort.
- Selecting Assessments will prompt new fields to appear to allow a school to select the required Assessment Type and Term.
- In Exams snapshots the subjects in quick measures will be grouped under the discount code of the qualification e.g. anything with a discount code of MA1 will show under “sports studies”. They wont be under the school subject name or exact exam option name, this reflects what is reported by the DFE.
Navigate to Modules > Analysis > Headline Figure Datasets

Click the top-left New.

Enter the required information.

- Name – Enter a name for the Snapshot for identification on the Dashboard.
- Description – Provide a brief description.
- Cohort – Select the required cohort.
- Attainment Estimates – Choose the Attainment Estimate to use. (Note: For current year groups, select an estimate using Scaled Scores rather than Fine Scores.)
- Focus – Choose whether the Snapshot will use Exam Results or Assessments. Exam Results is the default and is automatically set to the Summer Season of the selected cohort. Selecting Assessments will display additional fields to select Assessment Type and Term.
- Enabled – Tick to make the Snapshot visible on the Dashboard.
- Embargoed – Tick to restrict visibility to users with access to embargoed results.
Important: If Focus is set to Exam Results and the Embargoed box is unticked, data from seasons under embargo will display non-compliantly. Tick this box when including Exam Results from embargoed seasons to avoid breaches (see Config > Exams > Seasons).
Click Save once all information is complete.
Using the Dashboard

Once complete click Save .
The Custom Group will now be available to select in the Cohort Groups field

Once all the selections are as required click Apply to update the Dashboard.

The Dashboard calculates various Performance Measures based on the information provided and the Settings.
The top of the Dashboard shows a summary of key Performance Measures.

Followed by Graphs with the ability to drill down further into the Analysis of 4 key areas:
Progress 8, Attainment 8, Ebacc and Diminish the Difference
- Progress 8

Each individual Graph has a dropdown in the top-right, with the ability to change the Focus of the Graph.

Each Graph also has an Expand icon to make the Graph full screen.

If the user has chosen to include a Comparison then hover over any bar on a Graph and it will display a Schools Performance, the Comparison and the Gap between the school and the Comparison data.

Click on any of the Bars on any of the Graphs, this will Expand the Graph and display a table at the bottom including all the information for the Students included in the figure for the selected Bar .
In the example below we have selected the ‘Male’ bar on the Attainment 8 Graph, and the table below is displaying all Male Students and their associated Attainment figures.

At the bottom of the Dashboard, there is a Quick Measures panel, this gives the ability to breakdown performance into key measures by subject.

On the right of the Dashboard, view the Cohort Information Panel, a Pupil Progress Panel and an En & Ma Focus Panel.
The Cohort Information panel displays how many of the Students that make up the currently selected Cohort fall into certain key groups

Click on any of the rows in the panel and this will update the information on the Dashboard to include only the selected group.
Below the Cohort Information panel there is the Pupil Progress panel. This displays how many Students fall into different ranges of Progress 8 scores. Customise the ranges displayed here by clicking the Settings icon in the top right corner of the panel.

Clicking on any of the P8 ranges will display a list of the Students included in that range, along with their Scaled Scores, Progress and Attainment in key areas.
Export this using the Grid Actions in the top left-hand corner.

Finally, there is the En & Ma Focus panel.

Change the Focus by clicking on the drop down across the top of the panel

Clicking on any of the rows in the panel will load a list of the Students that make up the figure, alongside some key information about the students and their English and Maths Estimates and Attainment. This can be exported using the Grid Actions in the top left.

The Results Broadsheets (with either Grades or Grade Points) can be downloaded using the Download button in the top right-hand corner of either the Cohort Information panel, or the Pupil Progress Panel.
Tip : Click on any of the rows in the Cohort Information panel prior to clicking the Download button, the exported file will include only the Students that make up that group.
So for example, select Disadvantaged, and then Download the Broadsheet, it would only contain those students that make up the ‘Disadvantaged’ group.
Click the required option and this will Download a file locally to the PC.
Note: Please ensure Pop-Ups are allowed from Bromcom, or the Download may be blocked.

The following is an example of what a Results Broadsheet downloaded from the KS4 Performance Dashboard can look like.
