How to use Discount Exam Results

This guide shows you how to Edit Discount (Subject Classification) Codes to ensure the correct data is used in performance output reports and statistics.

Discounting ensures that, where a Student has taken two or more qualifications with an
overlap in curriculum, the performance measures only give credit once for teaching a
single course of study.

Access: the minimum permissions required for the Discount Exam Results page is found in the Examinations module from Config>Set up>Roles and Permissions

When exam results come in through the EDI process the system will automatically apply discounting for KS4 subjects.

So, where a student has discounted results for example

  • A student took a GCSE exam in Urdu in Y9 achieving a Grade 7 and then resat the exam in Y11 and achieved grade 9.
  • First entry rules normally apply for performance and so the system would automatically discount the Year 11 result.
  • This means that the student’s Y9 result would be used for her performance (Not the highest grade!).
  • However, there is an exception for discounting MFL and the highest result counts.
  • So, the user manually changes the checkbox status of each grade to discount grade 7 and not grade 9.

Reset to System Discounts would reverse this manual change and grade 9 would again be discounted.
