How to Create Assessment Types

In order to create Columns on a Tracking Template you need to create an Assessment Type, this is the type of data you wish to collect on the Assessment Sheet, for example, Predicted GradesCurrent GradesTargetsMock Results etc.

You only need to create one Assessment Type for each type of Assessment Data you wish to collect. You don’t need to create one per Subject or per Year Group.

Access: The minimum permissions required to access Assessment Components can be found in the Assessment module from within Config > Setup > Roles & Permissions.

Go to Modules > Assessment > Assessment Components

Ensure that Assessment Types is selected in the Assessment Components drop down. Click New to create a new Assessment Type.

This opens the Add Assessment Type page.

  • Name – Enter the name of the Assessment Type.
  • Description – Enter any further detail about the Assessment Type.
  • Active – If you would like to use the Assessment Type straight away ensure this box is ticked.
  • Exclude from Analysis – If you would like for this Assessment Type not to be included in any Analysis figures, you can select this box.
  • Result Type – Select from the drop down whether the information entered to the Assessment Type will be a Grade, Integer, Decimal, Comment, Yes/No or a Date.
  • Gradeset – This field will change based on what you select from the Result Type drop down. If you select Grade you will need to select a Gradeset, if you select Integer or Decimal you will need to select a Markset, if you select Comment you will need to set a Minimum and Maximum length (Note: this is character length). For Yes/No and Date no further information is required.
  • Exceptions – In the Exceptions section you can select different Years/Subjects/Terms where this Assessment Type will use a different Result Type. For example, if the Assessment Type will usually be recorded as a Grade but for Year 9 Science it will be recorded as an Integer you would add an Exception by selecting the options as per the following screenshot. (Note: In this example we have selected all Terms)

Once you’re happy click Create and the new Assessment Type will be available for use on Assessment Sheets.
