How To Set Up SMTP to Send Emails from Bromcom

Note: All pages below are subject to having relevant Roles and Permissions.

Bromcom offers a free SMTP Service. This provides 3000 emails per month, free of charge. If you wish to top up this amount, please contact Customer Care at customercareteam@bromcom.com.

Note: you cannot currently check your Bromcom SMTP balance in the system. This feature will be released early 2021.

Schools can also use their own SMTP server. Please ensure you familiarise yourself with your mail limits before deciding which service to use.

To start, from Config select Setup and System Settings.

Select which SMTP you wish to use, using the radio buttons.

Bromcom SMTP

Click the radio Button Bromcom SMTP Service. You will not be able to enter a From E-mail Address, this will be ‘greyed out.’

Click the Save button.

To test the service, use an external email address to avoid possible ‘looping’ returning a false test.

Non-Bromcom SMTP

Select Your Own SMTP Server.

Enter the email you want to use (noting replies will come back to this address) and click the Save button.

To test the service, use an external email address to avoid possible ‘looping’ returning a false test.

  1. If using your own SMTP server does Bromcom recommend using an admin email address just for sending purposes or could you use the main school email eg info@schoolname.org?
    Thank you
    Lisa

    1. Hi Lisa, from a Bromcom perspective you can use another email address with the same domain but I would recommend checking (with your IT team/the relevant email administrator) that it has rights to send and there is nothing else to consider.

As the article states it is best to test the new address first too.

      Hope that helps!

  2. Hi,
In the from category, I’ve seen the default category as info@…… Can I use my own school email in that field so that the recipient would see emails coming from my address, with my name?

    1. Hi Rishad, you can set your email as a default under Config > Communication > Configurations > School email; or when you go to send the email, change the FROM email to your own, but you will need to test this last method first to ensure your email allows this.

  3. I set the default email to one address, but when I tested the email, it came from the email that is set in the system settings.

    1. Hi Ros
Thank you for your comments, can you contact the Support Desk about this please.
      Many thanks
