How to Record a Behaviour Event for a Student

Note: All pages below are subject to having relevant Roles and Permissions.

This page will show you how to add a Behaviour Event against one or more Students.

Access: Dependant on the pathway chosen to Record a Behaviour Event the permissions required to enter a Behaviour Event page for a Student are found in either the Behaviour or Framework Module of Config>Setup>Roles & Permissions.

The Behaviour Entry page can be accessed from different locations within the MIS, these are listed below.

You can also Edit or Delete a Behaviour Event from Modules>Behaviour>Event Records or from within the Student Profile>Behaviour

  • From the left Menu go to:
    • Modules > Behaviour > Event Records > New
    • Students > Select Student/s > Actions > Behaviour Event
    • Students > Select Student/s > View > Behaviour > Events > + icon top right
  • From the Lesson Dashboard left Menu go to:
    • Seating Plan > Select Student/s >Action > Behaviour Event

Note: There are two types of Behaviour Entry page, the Old Style and the New Style, setup under Configurations. The New Style became available on the 18th September 2021. This page will cover both.

To delete a behaviour event that has been logged in error against a student you can with go to Modules>Behaviour>Event Records

OR delete the event from within the Student Profile>Behaviour then select the Event and click the top right bin icon in the Events Panel

Old Style Behaviour Entry

This will open a Behaviour Entry pop-up, add the Behaviour Event information using the dropdown lists and free text fields and when complete click the Save button. Not all of the options have to be selected, if you have missed any that do need to be included you will be given a Message when saving.

From the Student Name option select the Student/s to Record the Event against.

  • Date – will display the current Date and Time but can be manually adjusted
  • Event – is the Event to be added
  • Comments – is free text
  • Outcome – is the Outcome selected from the list for the Event
  • Group – is the current Class or Tutor Group
  • Owner – is automatically filled in as the current User but can be amended
  • Affected Students – is other Students affected by the Incident
  • Event Type – is the Type of Event selected from a dropdown list
  • Score – is the Points added or deducted for the Event
  • Internal Comments – is free text
  • Classification – is the categories that Events are put into by the School
  • Location – is the ClassRoom or area where the Incident took place
  • Witness – is the person who witnessed the Incident
  • Affected Staff – is other Staff affected by the Incident
  • Referee – is the designated Referral for this Incident
  • Generate Detention – a new pop-up is displayed when the + icon is clicked, giving additional options

New Style Behaviour Entry

The New Behaviour Entry pop-up has a Student Panel and 2 tabs Basic Details and More. Add the Behaviour Event information using the dropdown lists and free text fields and when complete click the Submit or Submit & Close button. Not all of the options have to be selected, if you have missed any that do need to be included you will be given a Message when saving.

What is displayed on the Basic Details and More tabs is defined by the school, the list below is for reference only.

  • Positive, Neutral, Negative buttons – click on these to see only Events of that Type listed in the selection box
  • Event Type – select the Event Type from the dropdown list
  • Event Selection Box  – lists the Events
  • Outcomes – is the Outcome selected from the list for the Event
  • Points– are the Points assigned for this Event
  • Internal Comments – is free text
  • Comments – is free text
  • Date/Time – is filled automatically and can be amended
  • Owneris automatically filled in as the current User but can be amended
  • Classification – is the categories that Events are put into by the School
  • Affected Students – is other Students affected by the Incident
  • Affected Staff – is other Staff affected by the Incident
  • Witness – is the person who witnessed the Incident
  • Referral Recipients– is the designated Referral for this Incident
  • Group – is the current Class or Tutor Group
  • Location – is the ClassRoom or area where the Incident took place
  • Logged By – is the User logging the Event
  • Additional Tutor – is an Additional Tutor

When an Event has been recorded it is displayed in the Student Panel.

Click on the Right Facing Arrow on the left to display more details.

When Submitting an Event you will be asked if you wish to Proceed.

If the Event has a Detention Assigned you will be asked if you want to Set the Detention now, if you do click the Set Detention & Proceed button, if not click the Proceed button.

A Detention can be Set after the Event has been added by clicking on the Hour Glass icon on the Student panel.

Detention New & Old Style Entry

If a Detention is Generated there will be additional selections.

  • Detention Type – type of Detention given
  • Allocate Detention – by Automatic Schedule or Manual Schedule
  • Select Date – will display the current Date and Time and can be manually adjusted
  • Staff – member of Staff to take the Detention
  • Location – Room where Detention will take place
  • Authorised – tick if the Detention has been Authorised
  • Attended – is to select an Attendance Mark from the dropdown list when the Detention has been taken

The selected Student/s will be displayed at the bottom, if they show with a pink background they are not free for this Detention, a white background then they are.

Note: Do not worry if you do not see all of the options listed above, what is displayed is defined by the School when creating an Event.

Note: The content for some of the dropdown lists are created by your School, when setting up the Behaviour Events, so will look different for each school.

Automatic Detention

An Event can trigger an Automatic Detention, therefore when that Event is selected the Automatic Detention is created based on the criteria set by the School.

When an Automatic Detention is created this is also added to the Student panel allowing a Teacher to inform the Student of the Detention details immediately.
